Message from the Principal

Mr. Thabo Letho

Flavius Mareka TVET College is growing steadily each year. This is in accordance with the plans made for the targets to be attained in relation to the available infrastructure and human resources to man developments. One of the yardsticks for this claim is the students' numbers the college was able to attract per annum. In 2011 it registered a total of 5,741 head counts. This figure increased to 6,627 in 2012, giving the college a 15.43 per cent growth rate year on year.

Part of the reasons why students' number improved so well is because of the opening of a satellite campus at Mafube Municipality (Frankfort). It started with 200 first year students who are registered in Engineering and Business Studies Report 191 programmes. The intention of opening this satellite was, among other things, urged by the need to meet the objective of extending TVET college education and training to areas which are still very far away from institutions of higher learning.
Flavius Mareka TVET College is mainly enrolling students who come from poor socio - economic backgrounds and many of our prospective students are not able to pay for their tuition. They can hardly access education and training unless they are assisted financially. The National Students Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has been made available to our students to apply for bursaries in order to address this challenge. For the past three years this college was able to achieve unqualified audit reports. This is part of our achievements on the good governance of the institution, about which not only the entire college community, College Council and management are happy, but the entire Department of Higher Education and Training as well.
I would like all the functionaries of this college and council members to remember that Bill Gates' said "As we look ahead into the next century leaders will be those who empower others." This should be part of what the entire college community lives for.
